Vote No on Tuesday

On Tuesday, voters from across the state will head to the polls to decide whether New York should hold a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con). IBEW 36 along with other unions throughout the state are asking all of our members to head to the polls and Vote No. Below I have included a short informational video about why you should vote no, but here is the simple reason that the IBEW is opposing it. A convention would allow the entire constitution to be changed, including laws that allow us to form a union, bargain collectively and many of the safety rules that the IBEW and other unions have fought for years to achieve.

Unlike many things in our current political climate, opposition to a convention cuts across political lines. Over 100 groups, including unions and gun advocates have teamed up to oppose this convention. It is extremely important that all Local 36 members vote on Tuesday November 7th against a convention and bring their friends and family to Vote No as well. In addition to the video, I have included some instructions on voting as well as some talking points that you can use when talking to your friends and family who might not be in a union.

Flip Your Ballot

When you go to vote on Tuesday, your ballot will have two sides. On the front will be the elections for elected officials like County Executive. If you flip your ballot over, you will see the propositions.  They will look similar to the picture above. The question about whether to hold a convention will be listed as Proposition 1, the question on the left. All you need to do is fill in the No box.
