The United Auto Workers strike at GM continues. In the midst of the strike, General Motors executives have shown just how callous and greedy they are, cutting off the health benefits of striking workers.
The workers striking are fighting to protect good, middle-class jobs in the United States. They're not only fighting for good pay and benefits, they're fighting against an unfair tiered system of temp workers and they're fighting to keep work in the United States.
We can't let them stand alone. We're calling on all other unions, community groups, political figures, friends and families to show up! United we bargain, divided we beg.
On October 2nd, the Central New York AFL-CIO will be hosting a Solidarity Rally with striking UAW members at the Rochester Plant, 1000 Lexington Ave, Rochester, NY 14606. The rally will begin at 4:30 PM. I would encourage all Local 36 members to attend and support these union brothers and sisters.
UAW members are walking the picket line 24 hours a day until the strike ends, so you can also stop by at anytime. When you do stop by, let them know that you are an IBEW Local 36 member and that the IBEW has their backs. You can also consider bringing a donation of food, snacks, water, coffee, etc to help keep up the energy on the picket line.
